Between Forest & Sea

We’ve reserved a private farm one hour south of San Francisco, California and one hour west of San Jose. It’s surrounded by 700 acres of pristine, untouched coastal land: beach, forest, stream. Hike 15-minutes and you’ll be at the Pacific Ocean.

The Environment

The environment is beautiful but raw. California’s northern coast is often shrouded in fog, with temperatures ranging from 72 to 53 degrees. Natives of this area say it never rains here in July, but don’t expect to be diving into the ocean without a wetsuit! You’ll want to bring layers of clothing, and shoes suitable for hiking.

Historic Farm

This was once a working farm, with many grow rooms, packing facilities and heavy equipment. The power grid and many of the buildings are still in use. So expect to camp near nature, but with electricity, along with some connectivity in the indoor spaces as well. And yes! They have flush toilets and working showers!

We'll be creating three major zones: a Wellness Zone where we will be offering yoga, meditation, and movement in an outdoor 44 foot dome; a Hacking Zone with indoor space for workshops and a Board Room for lightning talks; and an outdoor Creativity Zone for projects, pop-ups and large-scale creative work.

We'll also have a round-the-clock Tea Lounge where you can just hang out and relax.  Maybe take a nap.

Camping, Anyone?

We're setting up five camping villages, including one just for families with children, so bring your tent, camping chairs and sleeping gear, and you'll be all set.

Or you can rent a canvas tent with cots, mattresses, bedding and towels from the Farm and they’ll have it set up for you when you arrive. These 5-meter bell tents are big enough for 3-4 people, so invite your friends and share.

RVs are welcome too. You can drive in your RV and park it on site, just buy an RV Pass. 

Absolutely hate camping? There's the Costanoa Lodge just down the road. We won't tell anyone you chose to stay in a luxe suite. 

Internet Service

The Farm has limited connectivity to the internet and little to no cell service. Volunteer teams are setting up a local mesh network throughout the Farm so we can communicate and work offline with the decentralized tools you bring. We’re looking for DWeb communities to build services on top of the mesh. Think of it as a feature, not a bug--a chance to try our decentralized tools in real life conditions.

That said, our Connectivity Coordinator, Jonah Edwards, working with local providers to erect two towers, bringing in as much bandwidth as possible. If you'd like to pitch in and help with connectivity, please contact us at dwebcamp@archive.org. We hope to have 200-300 Mbps with any luck.

Take a Break

DWeb Camp is hiking distance away from the Pacific coast, a private lake, Gazos Creek, rugged bike paths, and fields of native wildflowers perfect for star gazing each night. On your way home, stop by the historic Pigeon Point Lighthouse or the town of Pescadero that dates back to the California Gold Rush.
