Proposals

Propose a Project

Projects can be as small and transient as a single gathering near a tree, or span multiple hours throughout the retreat to explore a theme together from many angles. If you have an idea you're already working on, organizing a Project may be a good way to engage diverse participants and test your assumptions.

Complex problems require interdisciplinary collaboration to solve. Can we invite projects that weave many skillsets, experiences and perspectives together?

We encourage you to connect with each other by browsing proposals or posting your ideas here in GitHub to brainstorm your Project with people from different disciplines. DWeb Camp is a chance to enlist artists, communicators, designers, educators, funders, infrastructure engineers, lawyers, network operators, organizers, software coders... into a team to explore a use case, share knowledge and build trust for our collaborative decentralized futures.

Time

Projects can span multiple spaces across different time slots. We ask you to think about how long you want to offer your project. Is it a one-time demo or workshop? A multi-day exploration? A physical exhibit you want to showcase for the entire event?

Spaces

The other key consideration is space. Check out the various spaces DWeb Camp has to offer. You can request an indoor space with table and chairs in the hacking Mesh Hall; an outdoor space in Wayback Wheel Tent; a spot in the Hyper Lounge for your Science Fair project, an hour in the 44-foot Dome of Decentralization or a place to erect your own big tent to invite people in. Our Project Coordinators will help you find the best spot in a huge and varied landscape.

Propose a Lightning Talk

Lightning Talks are 5-minute sessions held in the Lightning Salon, which has a screen and projector. They can be pre-arranged or day-of sign ups. You are welcome to talk about a variety of topics, such as a project you are involved in, a personal interest, an insight you've had at the Camp, or sharing the output of your DWeb Camp Project. We encourage you to share knowledge and ideas, not pitch products!

A large screen is available in the indoor space and the talks will be recorded and possibly live streamed. If you'd like to claim a 5-minute session and be listed on the Lightning Talks page, please sign up with one of the Stewards of the Lightning Salon during one of the activity sessions (note: day-of sign ups cannot be guaranteed a space with a projector/screen).

What Happens Next?

project-impact

After submitting the form, a Space Steward will contact you to make sure we can accommodate your space and logistical requirements, and that it is compatible with our Code of Conduct. After your Project or Lightning Talk is confirmed, it will be listed on our website. While there is no deadline for submission, we ask Projects with specific space and logistical requirements to submit ASAP so we have enough time to make arrangements.

If you have questions about the process, feel free to ask on one of our chats or email us at projects@archive.org.
