Camp Day Three July 20 Lightning Talks Reliberating Scholarly Works by John Kunze

John Kunze

Identifier Systems Architect, California Digital Library, University of California Office of the President
The early web made it easy for anyone to publish, but alarm at the
frequency with which URLs broke led to the false notion in academic and
research institutions that, to make their URLs persistent, they must
publish only via centralized and paywalled URLs. This talk describes the
causes and the 18-year-old, decentralized ARK identifier solution
maintained by the University of California.

What will You learn?
to spot some of the fallacies and help institutions avoid the waste of
paying for and losing control over individual URLs for their scholarly
and research outputs.
